Materials

PolyGlobal supplies and manufactures a range of materials, including Polyurethane, Polypropylene, TP Rubber, Nylon and TPE, to customers across the world.

Polyurethane 

Polyurethane’s key characteristics include toughness, flexibility, and resistance to abrasion.  Further, this material offers a broad hardness range, facilitating bespoke solutions that meet the operating environment and application exactly.  Significant other characteristics include extremely high flex-life, high load-bearing capacity and good resistance to weather, ozone, radiation, oil and most solvents.

Other properties are:

  • Temperature Range: -67°C to 107°C
  • Density: 1.2 g/cm³
  • Tensile Strength: 0.2-0.6 N/mm²
  • High range of hardnesses available, resulting in varying characteristics of our products
  • Grades available consist of Polyesters, Polyethers and Polycarprolactones
  • Shore hardness: Shore A10 – Shore D80

 

We produce 3 types of Polyurethane, chemically consisting of Ethers, Esters and Caprolactones. Each grade has specific qualities and characteristics that provide to your specific needs.

These qualities are:

Esters:

  • Excellent resistance to sliding abrasion, making the material longer
  •  Great resistance to heat, providing longer lasting components in hot environments.
  •  Greater tensile strength when compared to Ethers, increasing tear resistance.
  • Shock absorption rather than rebound with Ethers, resulting in dampened impacts and vibrations.
  • Greater resistivity to strong chemicals and oils.

The properties of Ethers make their usage ideal for:

  • Spacers
  • Star rotors
  • Rail dampeners
  • Shock absorbers/ buffers
  • Rollers
Caprolactone:

  • A biodegradable polymer, which ensures a lower environmental impact
  • Incorporates similar toughness and resistivity to esters
  • Usable in water based environments as it has resistivity to hydrolysis
  • Retains flexibility in low temperatures

The properties of Caprolactone make their usage ideal for:

  • Deep sea applications
  • seals
  • hydraulic and pneumatic application
Ethers:

  • Excellent resistance to impingent abrasion
  • Greater resistance to dynamic/ altering temperatures
  • Lower susceptibility to low temperature brittleness
  • Hydrolysis resistivity, making it ideal for offshore application
  • Ethers have a high rebound of impact energy, allowing for a strength and flexibility
  • Lower specific gravity when compared to other grades

  • We use additives to enhance the performance of our Polyurethane, these include; Blowing agents for anti-sink and weight reduction, anti-microbial additives, UV stabilisers, Anti-Static additives, Molybdenum disulphide to enhance and maintain lubrication with finished parts, metal detectable additives, fluorescent and luminescent colours and metallic affects.

Nylon

Nylon offers good mechanical properties and wear resistance. As a widely available material option it generally offers low cost solutions in a number of applications. Nylon’s key characteristics include high mechanical strength, rigidity and stability. Nylon is highly water absorbent and will often swell in water based environments.

Other properties are:

  • Temperature range: -30°C to 180°C
  • Density: 1.11-1.41  g/cm³
  • Tensile strength: 0.9-1.85 N/mm²
  • Shore hardness: Rockwell R110

 

What we do with the material:

  • We use additives to enhance the performance of our Polyurethane, these include; Blowing agents for anti-sink and weight reduction, anti-microbial additives, UV stabilisers, Anti-Static additives, Molybdenum disulphide to enhance and maintain lubrication with finished parts, metal detectable additives, fluorescent and luminescent colours and metallic affects.

 

We also produce Glass Filled Nylon:

The glass reinforcement present in this material option causes the material to have higher compressive strength and rigidity, as well as improved frictional characteristics. Further, glass filled nylon also offers higher maximum service temperatures compared to standard grades.


Polypropylene

Polypropylene is extremely chemically resistant, performs well in water based environments and black PP provides good UV resistance. Critically it offers a lightweight material option that maintains important physical characteristics such as strength and fatigue resistance.DSC03103

  • Density: 0.905 g/cm³
  • Tensile Strength: 0.95-1.30 N/mm²
  • Shore hardness: Rockwell R90

Hytrel®

Hytrel® is a versatile material that carries heat and chemical resistance, alongside strength, durability and resilience. As a thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) it also produces flexible products that avoid fatigue and maintain their integrity throughout long-term multi-directional movement.


TPR

TPRs, or thermoplastic rubbers, are a range of materials that combine many of the properties associated with standard rubbers with the moulding capabilities of the thermoplastics. They provide a diverse range of characteristics including resistance to oil, grease and temperature.

Arnitel®

Arnitel® is utilised significantly in the automotive industry as it offers a lightweight, more environmentally friendly alternative to standard rubber options. As a high performance thermoplastic, it can be manufactured in a spectrum of specific characteristics (such as shore hardness) and has a large range of FDA approved grades. In line with many of our other material options, flexibility, high temperature resistance and strength are key characteristics.


Specialist Material Additives

PolyGlobal utilises a range of additive options that are introduced during the moulding process to enhance the technical specifications of the finished product. This range also includes special effect colourants to alter the aesthetic finish of the part for identification, branding or coordination reasons.

  • Blowing agents for anti-sink and weight reduction
  • Antimicrobial Additive to make our products food and medically safe
  • UV stabilisers for further weathering protection
  • Antistatic additives to stop static build up, essential for multiple sectors including Aerospace
  • Flame retardant additives to fire proof our materials
  • Molybdenum disulphide coatings for enhanced and maintained lubrication in finished parts
