Agriculture Case Study – Rollers

Posted on: 30th Nov 2015

By manufacturing a bespoke mould tool that required no machining after casting, the roller could be supplied in a much softer material grade than otherwise available.

Summary

PolyGlobal was approached by an existing customer, an agricultural machinery manufacturer, to help develop a roller conveyor system used in the transfer of potatoes.

Project Development

This was a development into a new market area for the customer and so PolyGlobal’s broad spectrum of roller capabilities was imperative in the projects development. In order to meet the quantity demands on the potential order volumes, PolyGlobal manufactured 4 bespoke cast mould tools that would produce a finished roller that required no after machining. PolyGlobal was supplied free issue metal centres. These were shot blasted to ensure they provided the ideal surface for direct polyurethane to metal bonding.

Solution Advantages

By manufacturing a bespoke mould tool that required no machining after casting, the roller could be supplied in a much softer material grade than otherwise available. This has resulted in well-protected crops and a higher yield. PolyGlobal’s multi-cavity mould facilitates faster production times and a more responsive lead time.
